It's understandable that a first-year head coach might be a bit nervous before a home opener, but that wasn't the case Tuesday for Louisville native Amy Eckenfels, as she guided Campbellsville University women's volleyball to a 3-0 win over Bryan College.

Campbellsville University won its first three matches of a four-match weekend tournament in Canton, Ohio as the Tigers staked first-year coach Amy Eckenfels with a 3-1 record going into a home match Tuesday against Bryan College.

Eckenfels got some strong performances from her veterans, but also saw some newcomers step up as well.

"Overall I was pleased with the girls performance this weekend. The loss we took shows us areas that we need to improve," said Eckenfels.

Campbellsville University is the pre-season pick to finish second in the West Division behind last season's MSC champion, Georgetown, in Amy Eckenfels first year guiding the team.

First-year conference member Shawnee State is projected to win the East Division just ahead of second-year MSC member Rio Grande.

Campbellsville University opens the 2010 season a few spots above its 2009 finish in the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches Poll. The Tigers received 12 points in the 2010 preseason poll, released Tuesday.

Hundreds of fall sport athletes reported to Campbellsville University over the weekend in preparation for the beginning of eight 2010 fall sports seasons.

Members of teams from football, volleyball and mens' and women's golf, soccer and cross country began preparations for their season openers.
