James Hicks is in his fourth season as assistant coach of the Campbellsville University wrestling program. Hicks works with the lower weights, where he has had a wrestler compete in the NAIA finals each of the last two seasons. In 2010, he helped coach his first national champion, Tommy Pretty, to the 133-pound national title. The following year, in 2011, Johnny Papesh reached the 125-pound final.

A 2009 graduate of Campbellsville, Hicks transferred to CU in 2006 after being a national qualifier on the 2005-06 NAIA national championship team at Dana College. He was a two-time national qualifier for Campbellsville in 2006-07 and 2007-08. As a freshman in 2004-05, Hicks qualified for the national tournament with Si Tanka University.

Hicks wrestled his high school career at Glades Central High School in Florida, where he was a state placer. He and his wife Fredquisha have two children, James (4) and Jasmine (8 months).
