Lady Tiger softball has big night at annual Mid-South Conference Awards Banquet

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — To say Campbellsville University had a good night at the annual Mid-South Conference awards banquet would be an understatement. The Lady Tigers had six student-athlete earns All-Conference honors, while Campbellsville captured the Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Coach of the Year and Champions of Character award. 
 
Jacqueline Roof was named the Player of the Year for the third straight season (story), Neely Quint earns her first Pitcher of the Year honor (story), Ryley Whitney was named Co-Freshmen of the Year (story), Shannon Wathen earned her eighth Coach of the Year honor (story) and Brianna Scott picked up her third Champions of Character award (story). 
 
Roof, Whitney and Quint were joined on the All-MSC First-Team by sophomores Tori Humphrey and Alexis Smith. Also, pitcher Morgan Gailor earned Second-Team honors for the second straight season. 
 
Humphrey leads Campbellsville with a .386 average, 10 home runs and 46 RBI. Her .671 slugging percentage is also second behind Roof. Unfortunately, she went down with a season-ending ACL injury in the regular season finale against Lindsey Wilson last weekend and will miss the remainder of the year. 
 
Smith, from Louisville, Ky., leads Campbellsville with 51 RBI from the cleanup spot in the order. She's hitting .336 with 10 home runs – which is tied for the team lead with Humphrey. 
 
Gailor, another Louisville product, boasts a 1.94 ERA with a 15-6 overall record. Gailor ranks fifth in the MSC in ERA (1.94), second in hits allowed per game (6.1) and third in wins.
 
Hitting .385 with nine home runs and 36 RBI, Roof is one of the best players in the country once again. Her .679 slugging percentage and .484 on-base-percentage leads CU. She also leads the Lady Tigers in career slugging at .723, batting average at .401 and runs scored with 209 – all of that from the leadoff spot in the batting order. In conference play alone, Roof is hitting .438 with seven homers and 26 RBI. In addition, she's slugging .787 and has an on-base-percentage of .524 in the 28 MSC games.
 
From Scottsville, Ky., Whitney has worked herself into being one of the best hitting catchers in the country. She's hitting .361 on the season with three homers, 38 RBI and team-high 15 doubles. The average and RBI totals both rank third on the team. 
 
In conference play, Whitney is hitting .375 with 12 doubles and 20 RBI. In addition, Whitney is hitting .407 with runners in scoring position, .615 with runners on third and less than two outs, and .371 with two outs.
 
With a 25-2 overall record, Quint is having a season for the record books. She started her senior campaign with a perfect 24-0 record – the longest streak in CU history. Her 25 wins rank No. 1 in the Mid-South Conference and No. 3 in the NAIA. In addition, her 0.7 walks per game is eighth in the country as well. 
 
Overall on the year, Quint boasts an ERA of 1.48 in 165 innings pitched with 21 complete-games and eight shutouts. She also has a single-season career-high 96 strikeouts and opponents are hitting .244 of her.
 
Wathen has led Campbellsville to matching its highest ranking in program history at No. 4 and a 41-8 overall record. The 41 wins is now the sixth 40-plus-win season in her tenure and tied for the third most wins in a single-season with the 2007 and 2012 teams. Against ranked foes this season, Campbellsville tallied a 9-2 record, including two wins over No. 11 Lindsey Wilson and an 8-2 victory over No. 8 William Carey in the Gulf Coast Invitational on March 4. CU won its eighth regular season in program history – another Mid-South Conference record – with a 23-5 conference mark.
 
The honor is the third straight conference Champion of Character recognition for Scott, a senior from Summersville, Ky. She becomes the first-ever student-athlete in the MSC for any sport to earn the award three times.
