Alejandro Reyes and Chrys Castro earn NAIA First-Team All-American honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Entering the 2016-17 season, Campbellsville University men's tennis had never had a First-Team NAIA All-American. Brendan Aguilar earned the honor last season, but this year CU has a duo of Tigers pick up the mention.

Senior Chrys Castro and sophomore Alejandro Reyes earn First-Team honors, as Campbellsville now has three in program history.

In 2018, Reyes posted a record of 11-6 in singles competition, which included a perfect 5-0 mark at No. 2 singles. In his doubles matches, Reyes went 17-9 overall playing at No. 1 and No. 2 throughout the season. Reyes is part of the ninth ranked doubles team in the NAIA with Castro, where the duo went 9-3 this season. Reyes is also ranked 11th individually in the ITA tennis rankings.

He teamed up with Pablo Alonso from April 10 on to finish the season. That duo went 7-6 to end the year. In the NAIA Championship, the duo defeated the 20^th-ranked duo of Mark Simmons and Tim Buhler from No. 8 University of Mobile to help CU pull the upset.

Along with joining Reyes with a 9-3 record to round out the ninth-ranked doubles team in the NAIA, Castro went 20-6 overall in doubles competition. He highlighted doubles competition with a 12-3 mark at No. 1 doubles.

In singles competition, Castro went 13-5 overall and was 7-1 at No. 1 singles.

The All-American count for CU men's tennis now moves to 14 in total.

The Tigers ended the year with a 20-7 record and CU won its third NCCAA Championship. Campbellsville reached the NAIA Quarterfinal round of the national championship but lost to No. 2 Keiser on May 18 to end its season.
