PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The Mid-South Conference announced its award winners for the 2017-18 men's basketball season at its annual banquet on Thursday night.
Campbellsville University had a duo of Tigers mentioned on the All-Conference teams.
Andrew Smith, a junior from Johnson City, Tenn. was named to the First-Team, while junior
Hagen Tyler earned a Second-Team mention.
Smith leads the Tigers by averaging 14.5 points per game and grabbing 8.3 boards a contest. In the 30 games this season, Smith has scored in double figures in 22 of them with six 20-point games and a career-high 33-point performance vs. University of Pikeville on Feb. 17.
Smith ranks No. 11 in the NAIA with 46, No. 14 in field goal percentage at 57.6% and No. 14 in rebounds with 249.
He is entering the MSC Tournament after averaging 18.5 points and 15.5 rebounds per game last week in wins over Cumberland University and No. 10 Lindsey Wilson.
Tyler, a junior from Danville, Ky., is second on the team by averaging 13 points per game and leads the Tigers by hitting 41 percent from the 3-point line (68-of-168).
Tyler started the season scoring in double figures 16 of the first 17 games. In total, he has scored double digits in 20 contests.
In addition to Campbellsville's awards, UPIKE's Darrion Leslie and Georgetown's Shadell Millinghaus were named MSC Co-Players of the Year by the conference coaches. Shawnee State's EJ Onu collected both the MSC Freshman of the Year and the Randy Vernon Defensive Player of the Year honors in his first season.
Kelly Wells of Pikeville was voted as Coach of the Year by his peers. Pikeville's Rze Culbreath rounded out the individual awards and was named the MSC Champions of Character recipient to conclude the individual honors.
Campbellsville enters the tournament with a 21-9 record and finished 6-8 inside the MSC. The fifth-seeded Tigers tipoff their tournament on Friday, March 2 at Noon ET vs. four-seed Life University.
