Russell qualifies for NAIA, Tigers finish MSC Championship in second

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Tiger track and field completed the Mid-South Conference Championship with eight event victories, earning second place overall at James H. Taylor II Stadium.
 
Paxton Wiley is bringing home two gold medals, winning the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 14.72, then joining Brandon Battle, Jordan Thomas and Jaron Jackson in the 4x100-meter relay for first in a time of 42.20.
 
Thomas, Battle and Jackson then joined Keyshon Truitt for a victory in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing in a time of 3:20.91.
 
Starting bright and early with a win, senior Brandon Wiseheart competed in the 5000-meter race walk, completing the event in 25:10.09. Adam Sandidge then conquered the sweltering heat for a championship in the 5000-meter run in a time of 16:00.12.
 
Co-Athlete of the Year, Brayden Russell, cleared 2.04 meters in high jump to grab the final first-place finish for the Tigers and qualify for the NAIA Championships with a "B" standard. Russell went on to earn two fourth-place finishes in the 400-meter hurdles (59.38) and the triple jump (13.14 meters), then a sixth-place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles (17.24).
 
Earning the lone silver medal for the Tigers, freshman Tyler Lewis finished the 110-meter hurdles in 14.76.
 
Senior Brandon Battle placed third in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, running in 11.31 and 21.35, respectively. Thomas also finished third in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.64. Johannesburg Boulware then took a trip around the oval in 57.42, placing third in the 400-meter hurdles.
 
Standing out in the distance events, Bret Crawford placed third in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:03.54 and fourth in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:58.17. Corbin Harris also earned third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a finishing time of 10:18.26.
 
Representing jumps, Nick Mabe and Paxton Wiley finished third and fourth, respectively, in the high jump. Mabe cleared 1.82 meters and Wiley cleared 1.77 meters. Wiley also leaped 13.58 meters in triple jump for a bronze medal.
 
Other individuals scoring for Campbellsville: Jackson in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.68 (7th); Thomas in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.73 (8th); Battle in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.47 (6th); Camryn Snapp in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:03.78 (8th); Sandidge in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:05.26 (5th); Harris in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:46.79 (8th); Boulware in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.37 (5th); Tyler Lewis in the triple jump with 12.38 meters (7th); Michael Hunt in shot put with a throw of 11.95 meters (8th); and Clayton Embry in discus with a throw of 34.73 meters (7th).
 
Campbellsville will compete next at the University of Kentucky Last Chance Meet on May. 6 in hopes adding qualifiers for the NCCAA and NAIA Championships.
