Kinney named First-Team, while Tyler earned Second-Team All-Conference honors at the MSC Banquet

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Campbellsville University men's basketball had three individuals honored tonight at the Mid-South Conference Awards Banquet in the Capital Plaza Hotel.

Erik Kinney earned First-Team All-Conference honors, while Hagen Tyler was named to the Second-Team for the second-straight year. In addition, Elliott Young was named the MSC Champions of Character – see separate story – and he was joined by Tyler on the Academic All-Conference team with at least a 3.25 GPA.

The Mid-South Conference also named Dalarian Williams from Life University the Player of the Year and Keith Adkins the Coach of the Year. Pikeville's Jordan Perry earned Freshman of the Year honors, while Lindsey Wilson's Nic Brown was deemed the inaugural Randy Vernon Defensive Player of the Year.

"I am really happy for Erik and Hagen who recognized by the coaches in our league for having outstanding seasons," said coach Brent Vernon. "They both have put in tremendous work and been leaders for us throughout the year. As a staff we could not be more proud of them and this honor is very deserving."

Kinney, a senior from Fairfield, Calif., has started in 22 of the 26 games for Campbellsville and is averaging a double double with 11.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Kinney has been a force the last 15 games, ranking No. 4 in the NAIA in rebounds per game (10.2), No. 8 in defensive rebounds per game (6.9) and offensive rebounds per game (3.2). In addition, he ranks 11th in total rebounds (265).

Kinney has also grabbed 11 double-doubles this year – the second most in the conference – and leads the MSC with his 10.2 rebounds per contest.

Kinney and Tyler both had stellar games throughout the year. In the 5OT contest against University of the Cumberlands, Kinney scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed 21 rebounds – making him the first Tiger to record a 20-rebound game since Steve Bugg did so in 1983 against Cumberlands.

Tyler, who was named the MSC Freshman of the Year last season, has shined brilliance at times throughout 2016-17. With opponents marking him all season once he steps over half court, Tyler had to be creative in getting his shots off and has excelled. He leads the Tigers by averaging 13.5 points per game and is hitting 40.2 percent from 3-point land – ranking No. 1 in the conference.

In addition, Tyler is second in the MSC by hitting 2.4 3-pointers a game and total 3s with 68.

Highlights throughout the year for Tyler were hitting six 3-point baskets against Wilmington College and scored 33 points.

The Mid-South Conference men's basketball tournament gets started on Friday, March 3 in the Frankfort Convention Center in Frankfort, Ky. The Tigers and Georgetown College will play at 6 p.m. ET.
