BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Campbellsville's
Jamie Lawrence has been named Mid-South Conference Women's Bowling Co-Coach of the Year and five student-athletes earned All-Conference awards, officials announced Thursday, Feb. 16 at a banquet held at the National Corvette Museum.
Lawrence, who is in his second year at the helm, received Co-Coach of the Year honors with Bobby Brown from Pikeville.
This season, Lawrence has led his 2016-17 team to six Top 5 finishes, winning the Ebonite Green River Classic and finishing second at both the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Classic and the Lindsey Wilson College Baker Classic.
In addition, the Lady Tigers had steadily climbed up the ranks the previous five seasons. Starting in 2013, CU ranked 49th in the country and has moved from 43rd in 2014, 23rd in 2015, 19th in 2015 and currently ranking No. 16 - the highest in program history.
"Congratulations to Coach Lawrence for being recognized for his team's accomplishments this year," said
Rusty Hollingsworth, director of CU athletics. "Jamie has done an exceptional job with recruiting and preparing his teams for competitions all over the eastern half of the United States.
"Jamie does a great job coaching both the women's team, but the men's team as well. It is always special for a coach to be recognized by their peer coaches for such an award."
"I am humbled and grateful to my coaching colleagues as I receive the Women's Bowling Coach of the Year honor," said Lawrence. "We are blessed to be in one of the strongest bowling conferences in the nation, and the fellowship among this great group of coaches is amazing. I am truly blessed. I especially thank my family whose understanding and support allows me to be a part of this amazing team."
Five student-athletes were also honored at the banquet. On the women's side,
Kylah Martin and
Crystal Land both earned second-team honors and finished the regular season with a 186.58 and 188.59 average, respectively.
Andrew Lissik was the lone Tiger to be named on the first-team. He finished the regular season with an average of 204.95.
Ryan Bremer and
Devon Gunderson were tabbed as second-team performers with averaged of 203.8 and 200, respectively.
"All of our bowlers have worked hard, putting in the extra hours it takes to get to the next level," said Lawrence. "I'm proud of their accomplishments and willingness to strive for excellence."
The Tigers and Lady Tigers open their conference tournament Friday, Feb. 17 at Southern Lanes in Bowling Green, Ky. for the MSC Championship.
