Abolina named All-MSC First Team; Women’s Volleyball places four on second team

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. Annija Abolina was the lone Campbellsville women's volleyball player selected to the All Mid-South Conference First Team, the conference announced on Wednesday night at its annual banquet at Mariah's.
 
Maria Coelho, Marcella Compeau, Julia Fonseca and Katie Johnson joined Abolina in earning All-MSC honors as the quartet was named to the All Mid-South Conference Second Team.
 
Abolina leads Campbellsville this season with 311 kills in 93 sets, while also tallying a team-best 47 service aces. This is the second-straight season that Abolina has earned first team honors after being named to second team in 2014 and 2015.
 
Along with leading the team in kills and aces, the senior has a .273 attacking percentage and she is third on the team with 55 total blocks.
 
Coelho garners second team honors for the second time in as many years, while Compeau, Fonseca and Johnson all earned all-conference honors for the first time in their careers.
 
Compeau has taken over as the libero this season and leads the team with 488 total digs, while notching 4.52 digs per set. Compeau is second in the Mid-South in digs and is third in digs per set. She is one of two players to appear in all 108 sets for the Lady Tigers this season.
 
Coelho is second on the team with 285 kills and she averages 2.66 kills per set. The native of Valadares, Brazil has compiled an attacking percentage of .182. She also ranks third on the team with 296.5 points scored this season.
 
Fonseca has posted a team-high 78 blocks and a .315 attacking percentage. She has played in 107 of the team's 108 sets racking up 253 kills. The junior enters postseason competition with 302 points, which is second on the team.
 
Johnson rounds out the Campbellsville individuals on the second team after recording 222 kills for the Lady Tigers this season. Johnson is one of two players to appear in all 108 sets and one of four players on team to record over 200 kills this season. The Boise, Idaho native is second on the team with 298 digs and has 21 blocks, to go along with 17 aces.
 
Cassidy Mull was also nominated for the Mid-South Conference Champions of Character Award, where University of the Cumberlands' Megan Willoughby won the award.
 
Lindsey Wilson College swept the individuals honors this season after going unbeaten in the regular season and winning the conference regular-season championship.
 
Makenzie Montano repeated as MSC Player of the Year and Paulina Sobolewska earned Mid-South Freshman of the Year honors. Caitlyn Tino garnered MSC Libero of Year accolades for the second time in as many seasons, while Andy Cavins was voted as MSC Coach of the Year.
 
Campbellsville is the third seed in the conference tournament and faces sixth-seeded Cumberland University at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday night at South Warren High School in Bowling Green, Ky.
 
Quarterfinal action begins at 10:30 a.m. ET between top-seeded Lindsey Wilson and eighth-seeded University of Pikeville. Fourth-seeded University of the Cumberlands faces fifth-seeded Life at 1 p.m. ET and No. 2-seeded Georgetown battles No. 7-seeded Shawnee State University at 3:30 p.m. ET.
 
The semifinals take place at 10 a.m. ET and 1 p.m. ET on Friday, followed by the championship match at 7 p.m. ET on Friday night. All seven matches take place at South Warren High School
