BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — For the second straight year the individual medalist at the Mid-South Conference Men's Cross Country Championship hails from Campbellsville University.
Junior
Bret Crawford out-ran the field by 17 seconds to win his first MSC Championship and the second straight for CU as
Adam Sandidge won last year's race.
Crawford finished with a time of 25:39.3 – 17 seconds ahead of University of the Cumberlands Ben Call (25:56.9).
In addition to Crawford's title, freshman
Sam Kiser finished seventh with a time of 26:41.5 to earn Freshman of the Year honors. Both Crawford and Kiser were named First-Team All MSC by finishing in the Top 7.
Both Crawford and Kiser earned bids to the NAIA Championship by being the top four individuals not on the winning team. In addition to Crawford and Kiser, Cumberlands' Ben Call and Garrett Faulkner also punched their tickets to nationals. The National qualifiers are announced early next week.
Corbin Harris and
Jacob Hamilton also finished in the Top 10 to earn Second-Team All MSC honors. Harris placed ninth by running the 8K in 26:50.5, while Hamilton finished in 10
th with a time of 26:52.1.
As a team, Campbellsville earned 49 team points to finish runner-up. Shawnee State University won the team title with 31 team points and four runners in the Top 8 and all seven runners in the Top 15. The Bears earned the conference's automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship later this month in Fort Vancouver National Historic Championship Course in Vancouver, Wash.
CU averaged a time of 26:48, while Shawnee State was 15 seconds ahead at 26:33. University of the Cumberlands finished in third place by averaging 26:58.
