LEXINGTON, Ky. — Coach Vanessa Adkins knew her Campbellsville University team's performance wasn't its best at the Mid-South Conference Championship at Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School Wednesday night.
 And the judges concurred.
Campbellsville, although it won three small-squad events, had to settle for runner-up to Pikeville in the team competition. It was the Bears first-ever title. In the past 10 years Campbellsville and Georgetown own four championships apiece and Cumberlands and Pikeville have won one each.
"It was not our best performance," said Adkins while other squads were still competing. "But that's OK. Sometimes that happens.
"It's hard to accept a loss with all the hard work I know these kids have put in. Even at the Regional we weren't totally into it mentally."
