Tigers are Mid-South Cheer Champions

FRANKFORT, Ky. - Campbellsville University cheerleaders claimed their fourth Mid-South Conference team title in six years, and in the process swept every competition category but Cheerleader of the Year at the Frankfort Convention Center Arena Wednesday night.

Campbellsville also won the title in 2007, 2009 and 2010.

"It gets harder every year," said Coach of the Year Vanessa Adkins as she analyzed her squad's performance. "We just really have good chemistry and that makes all those hard practices so much easier."

In addition to the squad competition, the Tiger cheerleaders won the All-Girl Stunt and Mixed Stunt categories. Members of the All-Girl Stunt team were Audrey Wunderlich, Ashley Bates, Samantha Vanhoose, Rachel Clements and Lyndsey McClain. Those competing in the Mixed Stunt were Bates, Joe Blackstone and David Coffey.

University of Virginia's College at Wise finished second in the team portion followed by Georgetown College in third place.

"It's great to see our cheerleaders and coaches win the Mid-South," said Director of Athletics, Rusty Hollingsworth. "They work hard for so long every year. They have now been recognized for their efforts."

UVa.-Wise's Heather Huntington earned the MSC Cheerleader of the Year in a competition following the team event.

Huntington is one of 16 cheerleading student-athletes named to the all-conference team. The all-conference team along with academic all-conference was announced earlier in the day at the conference's annual banquet.

Campbellsville coach Vanessa Adkins is the Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year and Campbellsville's Audrey Wunderlick is the MSC Champions of Character recipient. Wunderlick earned the award -- as voted on by the conference athletics director - for her civic and servant leadership within the campus and community.
