BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Jana Kortas, Inoa Fields and Annija Abolina headlined the 2015 Mid-South Conference banquet the Lady Tigers. The trio picked up awards tonight from commissioner Eric Ward at the National Corvette Museum.Â
Kortas was the lone Lady Tiger named first team All-Conference for the second consecutive season. Fields and Abolina were named to the second team.
Kortas led Campbellsville with 422 kills and a hitting percentage of 0.262. The senior from Simpsonville, Ky., finished the regular season ranked third in the Mid-South Conference in kills, fourth in kills per set (3.5), and eighth in hitting percentage.
Kortas had a breakout match against Shawnee State University on Oct. 8, recording a career-high 33 kills to break into the 1,000 Kill Club. The 33 kills were the most by any player all season in the MSC.
Fields, a junior from Mililani Town, Hawaii, led the Mid-South Conference with 1,231 assists and was just behind Lindsey Wilson's Makenzie Montana averaging 10.3 assists per set - Montana finished at 10.4 assists per set. The 1,231 assists also ranks her No. 13 in the NAIA and her assists per set ranks her No. 21.
Fields had five matches with 50-plus assists. The most came against Shawnee State on Oct. 8 with 57. Fields also led the Lady Tigers with 50 service aces this season.
Abolina, who is also picking up her second straight second team award, had a breakout sophomore campaign. She finished with 367 kills and 43 service aces – both are second on the team. She also ranked sixth in the MSC in kills and fifth in kills per set (3.3).
Kortas, Abolina and Maria Coelho also picked up their Academic All-Conference awards tonight for maintaining at least a 3.25 GPA.
Lindsey Wilson's Carol Siqueria was named the MSC Player of the Year. Siqueira leads the Blue Raiders with 387 kills and has a hitting percentage of .245 this season. Siqueira is second on Lindsey Wilson with 317 digs en route to recording 13 double-doubles this season.
Lindsey Wilson also had the Freshman of the Year (Ragni Knudsen) and Coach of the Year (Andy Cavins).
Georgetown's Courtney Grafton was named the Libero of the Year, while University of the Cumberlands' Syndey Beck picked up the Champions of Character award.
The Mid-South Conference Volleyball Tournament begins on Thursday with one opening round match followed by four quarterfinal matches at South Warren High School in Bowling Green. For more information, click HERE.
Fourteen players make up both the first and second teams. The individual awards and all-conference teams were voted on by the conference coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
