CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville university cross country picked up multiple honors at the annual banquet hosted at the National Corvette Museum on Saturday night.
In addition to coach Hilary Lakes being named Coach of the Year, there were 18 individual awards received by Campbellsville.
The Tigers picked up their 2015 championship banner and had three runners on the First-Team All-MSC - Brett Pierce, Adam Sandidge and Bret Crawford. Crawford finished fourth in the championship and was named MSC Freshman of the Year by being the top freshman in the race.
Campbellsville had seven Tigers be named Academic All-MSC - Ross Allen, Luke Camp, Dylan Ford, Wade Harris, Joey Hartlage, Brett Pierce and Brandon Wiseheart. The Tigers tied Shawnee State with the most Academic All-MSC honors.
The Lady Tigers were also close to the top of the list with academic awards. CU had five women named Academic All-MSC – which was tied with Shawnee State for second – Maggie Calvert, Bailey Foxworth, Brandi Thomas, Mallory Vest and Abby Wicke.
To be named Academic All-MSC, student-athletes must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved at least sophomore academic status.
Lindsey Wilson's John-Paul Williamson captured the individual title by one second over Pierce. He broke the tape in 25 minutes and 43.5 seconds for the win and also being named the MSC Men's Runner of the Year.
Williamson is one of four individuals to earn at-large bids to nationals. Cumberlands' Ben Call and Shawnee State's David Jaeger and Cody Redman punched their tickets that to being the top four individuals now on the winning team. They will join Campbellsville in Charlotte, N.C. for the national championship which is being raced on Nov. 21.
On the women's side, Shawnee State won the team title and coach Eric Putnam was named Coach of the Year. Sarah Biehl won the race by 39 seconds, as she crossed the finish line in 15:56.5, to be named Runner of the Year.
In addition to the team champion, four individuals earned an at-large bid to nationals. Lindsey Wilson's Nikki Coffey and Maria Cozzens, Georgetown's Tayler Godar and Cumberlands' Madison Peace finished top four individuals not on the championship team.
Coffey placed third in the race and was named Freshman of the Year.
The Champions of Character awards went to AnnMarie Lake and Brent Logan of University of the Cumberlands.
