BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Campbellsville University had a nice showing tonight at the Mid-South Conference soccer banquet, with 20 student-athletes honored at the National Corvette Museum.
Gonzalo Sapena, Chris Moyo, Ryan Foster, Daniel Nimmo, Alex Ryan, Guilherme Cheng and Marcelo Petit were all named First Team Mid-South Conference for the Tigers.
On the second team, CU boasted three players – Yona Lobulu, Alex Higdon and Ross Lindsay.
On the women's side, Campbellsville once again boasted a hand full of players - Amanda Howard, Mhairi Fyfe, Rachel Veatch, Chelsea Gill and Morgan Danis.
Kathryn Thomas and Rachel Seals were both named to the second team for the Lady Tigers.
In addition to the All-Conference teams, Lady Tiger Rachel Veatch was named the MSC Champions of Character and Mhairi Fyfe was named the Player of the Year. Also, Tiger head coach Adam Preston was named Coach of the Year for the third time (see separate stories).
In addition to Veatch, Shawnee State's Erin Phillips also won the MSC Champions of Character award.
On the women's side, Lindsey Wilson's Yvonne Ploeg was named the Freshman of the Year and Drew Burwash was named the Coach of the Year.
On the men's side, Lindsey Wilson's Aleski Pahkasalo was named the Player of the Year and Cam Philpot was named the Freshman of the Year. Tristan Smith was also named the MSC Champions of Character.
The MSC coaches voted on the yearly awards along with the all-conference teams. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
Both Campbellsville teams kickoff the MSC Tournament tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 5 at Lovers Lane Soccer Complex. The Tigers play at 1 p.m. ET against University of Pikeville and the Lady Tigers kickoff at 8:30 p.m. ET against Shawnee State.
