COLUMBIA, Ky. — (RESULTS) Just like the women's team, Campbellsville men's track and field finished the Mid-South Conference Championship with two individual titles. The Tigers also finished in fourth place out of the seven-team event.
Joey Hartlage started the day off for Campbellsville in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a first place finish. The junior from Louisville, Ky. was the only student-athlete in the field with a sub 10-minute time. Hartlage ran the event in 9:57 and scored the Tigers 10 points.
PJ Randles was the highest Tiger to finish in the field with 24 points. Randles won the MSC championship in the triple jump with an NAIA 'A' Standard mark of 14.51-meters. He missed the championship record jump by only .07-meters.
Both Hartlage and Randles were named First Team All-MSC and Randles also finished in the top three in two other events. The senior from Radcliff, Ky. finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.34 seconds) and third in the high jump (1.88-meters).
Demytreus Gipson finished just behind Randles with 22 points. Gipson placed second in the 100-meter dash, behind University of the Cumberlands' Wendall Williams. Williams outlasted Cametrick Ross for Lindsey Wilson College to gain Athlete of the Year honors.
Williams won four events – long jump, high jump, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. He also was a part of the 4x100 relay team for the Cumberlands that finished first.
Campbellsville finished second in the 4x400-meter relay. The four-man team of Jeremy Hamilton, Silaf Harris, Johannesburg Boulware and Gipson ran a time of 3:30, just two seconds behind Georgetown College's 3:28.
Other top three finishes came from Brett Pierce in the 10,000-meter run and Clayton Embry in the 110-meter hurdles. Freshman Stuart Nicholas placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.48-meters and Gipson placed third in the javelin.
Lindsey Wilson ran away with the conference title with 256 points. Cumberlands finished in second place with 214 points and Shawnee State in front of Campbellsville with 131 points. Georgetown College finished fifth with 66 points and St. Catharine College placed sixth with 47 points.
Campbellsville will now travel to Rome, Ga. for the NCCAA National Championships on May 1-2. The Tigers will also then compete in the NAIA Championships on May 22-23 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
