Pierce qualifies for NAIA Championships, CU fourth in MSC

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – Brett Pierce is NAIA bound after a sixth-place, All-Conference finish at the Mid-South Conference Championships on Saturday, Nov. 9. The junior from Edgewood, Ky., led CU with a time of 26:35.43, his second fastest of the season, to earn one of five individual bids from the MSC to the NAIA National Championships. The national championships will be Nov. 23 at Kansas University's Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kan.

The top five individual finishers from the non-winning team qualified for the NAIA Championships.

Pierce's lead time helped Campbellsville University to a fourth-place finish as a team. Tenth-ranked Shawnee State University won its fourth consecutive MSC title, while the University of the Cumberlands, currently receiving votes, finished second and has a chance for an at-large bid as a team to the NAIA Championships. University of Rio Grande, host of the meet, finished third.

Senior Andrew Simmons was second for the Tigers and two positions away from being an All-Conference Second Team member with a 16th place finish in 27:43.42, while sophomore Dylan Ford was 24th in 28:11.79. Joey Hartlage (31st, 28:41.43) also finished in the top third of the 98-man race.

Other runners for CU were Mason Dunbar (39th, 28:58.03), Wade Harris (41st, 29:07.05), Leighton Lavey (49th, 29:53.02), William Pearson (30:16.24), Bradley Harris (61st, 30:31.49), Luke Camp (71st, 31:59.11), Brandon Wiseheart (75th, 32:23.38) and Danny Hess (85th, 33:57.97).

Campbellsville will conclude its action as a team on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division I Championships at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, Ohio
