FRANKFORT, Ky. — Campbellsville's
Hagen Tyler became the second player in
Keith Adkins' 16-year CU coaching career to be named Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year.
Tyler was recognized tonight at the MSC Men's Basketball banquet held at the Capital Plaza Hotel. The last Tiger to pick up the honor came just two years ago when
Miles Rice earned the award in 2013-14.
"This is a much deserved honor for Hagen," said CU coach
Keith Adkins. "He has had a great season up to this point regardless of his class. It has been fun to watch him grow and change as a player. I still think he will continue to get better with experience," said Adkins.
Coming into the Mid-South Conference Tournament, Tyler ranks No. 5 in the country in total 3-pointers made (94) and seventh in the NAIA in 3-pointers made per game (3.1). He is currently fifth on the single-season list for most 3s. Shane Blevins tops the list with 122 made 3s in 1990-1991.
Tyler had many break-out games this year, but the brightest of them all came when he hit 10 3-point baskets against Life University on Jan. 7. Also, in an exhibition game for the Tigers on Nov. 14, Tyler nailed eight 3s and scored a then-career-high 28 points against NCAA DI Western Kentucky University. In 30 games played, Tyler has hit five or more 3s on eight separate ocasions.
Campbellsville plays in Mid-South Conference Tournament on Friday, March 4 at 8:00 when it meets Shawnee State University at the Frankfort Convention Center.
