WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Campbellsville swim coach Casey Smith has been named Mid-South Conference Women's Swimming Coach of the Year, conference officials announced on Thursday night during the awards banquet at the Williamsburg Tourism & Convention Center.
"Congratulations to coach Smith for receiving this honor," said CU Director of Athletics
Rusty Hollingsworth. "It is nice to be recognized by your peers for the hard work and effort you put into making a quality athletic program.Â
Â
"Our swim programs continue to improve, but we also see the character and spirit by which coach Smith teaches her student-athletes."
Â
Smith was hired as the Campbellsville University men's and women's swim coach in August 2011. She swam for the Lady Tigers in 2007 and 2008 and is the fifth women's and third men's swimming coach since the men's sport was re-added at Campbellsville in the early 1990s.
Â
A native of Bath, N.Y., Smith has resided in Campbellsville since she transferred here to compete for the Lady Tigers. In 1999 she joined the Corning River Rats, a YMCA/USS swim team for 8-18 year olds and she swam with them for four years. From 2005-2006 Smith swam for a club team at Eastern University, St. Davids, PA.
 Â
Campbellsville competes in the Mid-South Conference Swimming Championships beginning today at the Dinah Taylor Aquatic Center on Cumberlands' campus and continues Saturday.
