COLUMBIA, Ky. — Lady Tiger Head Coach Ginger Colvin was chosen by her peers as the Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year, league officials announced Thursday.
Colvin has been MSC Coach of the Year three times in the last five seasons after leading her team to the its 12th MSC regular season championship and 18th overall going back to the KIAC.
"It is a great honor to be voted by your peers in such a tough conference," said Colvin. "Ultimately its an honor given to me but deserved by so many. I have the best assistant and support staff in the business. My players are one of the most selfless groups I've ever been around and it makes our system work. I'm appreciative of the honor and of all the people who help make it all work."
Colvin's Lady Tigers finished the 2014 regular season with only three losses (27-3). Campbellsville started the season ranked No. 9 and moved its way to as high as No. 4, where the the Lady Tigers sit now.
Campbellsville is ranked in 21 total NAIA statistical categories and 17 of those are in the Top 14. The Lady Tigers allow 57.4 points a game (1st MSC), has an average margin of victory of 25.3 points (1st MSC), is out-rebounding opponents by 10.6 (1st MSC), while averaging 44.8 rebounds a game (1st MSC). CU is also picking up 13.5 steals a game (1st MSC), forcing nine more turnovers a game (1st MSC), while only turning the ball over 14.4 times a game (1st MSC). They also have an assist turnover ratio of 1.3 (1st MSC) and are shooting 38.3 percent from behind the 3-point line (1st MSC). All are season highs in the Colvin era.
"Congratulations to Coach Colvin for being recognized by her peers as the MSC Coach of the Year," said CU Director of Athletics Rusty Hollingsworth. "This accomplishment shows the commitment she has to her sport and her players. This team is a lot of fun to watch and its a well deserved honor."
Campbellsville has eclipsed the 20-win mark for the sixth time in the seven seasons Colvin has been at the helm. During those seven seasons, the Lady Tigers have finished with 30 or more wins twice and have a chance to make it a third time in seven years with the Mid-South Conference Tournament starting Friday, March 7.
CU is the No. 1 seed and will face the No. 8 seed Bluefield College at 3 p.m. ET on Friday. The MSC Tournament is being played at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn. March 7-9.
