PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Campbellsville University Men's Cross Country team placed third at the 2014 Mid-South Conference Championships on Saturday.
"Our men did a great job. We had six of the 10 guys either have a lifetime or season best 8K time on Saturday," said coach
Hilary Lakes. "They went out there and competed and ran great. I am really proud of how they worked together as a team, not just at conference, but the entire season."
Hodgenville, Ky. freshman,
Adam Sandidge led the team, finishing in sixth place with a time of 26:28.4. Louisville, Ky. junior
Joey Hartlage was just seconds behind him with a time of 26:57.9, good for 10
th place. Both have qualified for the NAIA National Championship to be held Saturday, Nov. 22 at Rim Rock Farm, Lawrence, Kan.
"I am very proud of Adam and Joey," continued Lakes. "They ran great on Saturday and pushed themselves to finish where they did. They defiantly deserve to run at NAIA's in Kansas. They have put in a lot of time and hard work from the summer and into the entire season and all that hard work has paid off. I am excited to see how they do in Kansas and I am glad they both get to continue to run together."
Dylan Ford placed 12th with a time of 27:13.5. He was followed by
Alex Robinson (28:34.8),
Wade Harris (28:34.8), and
William Pearson (28:39.1), finishing 22nd, 23rd, and 24
th, respectively. Completing CU's runners was
Brandon Wiseheart in 27th place with a time of 29:02.5.
CROSS COUNTRY ACADEMIC HONOREES
Campbellsville University produced the most men's cross country academic honorees with six out of the 22 named. Academic All Mid-South Conference honorees included:
Luke Camp,
Dylan Ford,
Wade Harris,
Joey Hartlage,
Brett Pierce, and
Brandon Wiseheart.
In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved at least sophomore academic status.
