Joe Stockton is in his fourth season as head coach of the Campbellsville University indoor and outdoor track and field programs. He joined the CU staff in 2008 as a football assistant coach and took over as outdoor track and field head coach in 2009. In January 2011, CU added indoor track and field for the first time.
In 2011, he led both the men and women to a second-place finish in the Mid-South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Following the season, he was named the College Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year in the state of Kentucky.
During his tenure, his student-athletes have rewritten the record books for men's and women's track and field at Campbellsville University. In three seasons, nearly 50 outdoor records have been broken and multiple student-athletes have qualified for outdoor national compettiion in either the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) or NAIA.
Four NCCAA individual national titles have been captured during his time at CU, including back-to-back NCCAA outdoor triple jump titles by Detrick Briggs in 2009 and 2010. Briggs, who was a three-time NCCAA All-American, was the first CU student-athlete to win multiple national titles. In 2011, Xavier Walker claimed the NCCAA 400-meter dash title. In 2012, PJ Randles claimed the first NCCAA indoor national title in the triple jump. Tiosha Beasley became the first indoor track and field NAIA All-American in 2012, finishing seventh in the women's triple jump.
During Stockton's tenure CU has had five Mid-South Conference All-Conference performers: Detrick Briggs (2010, 2011), Dale Kerr (2010), Kotey Crowe (2011) and Tiana Benjamin (2011). Three student-athletes have qualified for the NAIA National Championships: Detrick Briggs (Triple Jump 2010, 2011), PJ Randles (Triple Jump 2011) and David McKellar (Decathlon 2011).
A graduate of North Hardin High School and Western Kentucky University, Stockton has been honored for all levels of his career. While at North Hardin, he helped lead his team to its first Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) State Championship in 1992. During his five years of high school track, Stockton captured nine individual state titles in long jump, triple jump, 110 high hurdles and the 300 low hurdles. He still holds the North Hardin High School record in the 110 high hurdles, 300 low hurdles and long jump, while his state record for the 300 low hurdles stood for more than a decade.
In October 2010, he was inducted into the Western Kentucky University Hall of Fame for his record-setting days as a football player, and in the spring of 2011, he was inducted into the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) Hall of Fame for his track accomplishments at North Hardin.
