Former Tiger golfer Kenny Lawson is in his fourth season as head coach of the men's golf program at Campbellsville University.
Lawson, who played for the Tigers in 1997-98, took over the program prior to the 2008-09 season following the retirement of P.J. Throckmorton.
During his second season in 2009-10, Lawson led the Tigers to a first-place finish in the Mid-South Conference Fall Tournament at Campbellsville Country Club to help claim the program's third MSC Regular Season title in five years. The tournament was also CU's Don Bishop Invitational, which the Tigers won each year from 2006-2009, twice under Lawson. CU was third in the fall of 2010. During his three seasons, CU has posted a Top 10 finish in the NCCAA National Tournament each year, including fifth-place finishes in the 2008-09 and 2010-11. He has had three NCCAA All-Americans and two one NCCAA Scholar Athlete. Lawson also has had one individual MSC Championship Tournament champion, Logan Griffin in 2009.
A 2000 graduate of Campbellsville University, Lawson is also employeed in the CU admissions office, where he is in charge of transfer students. He began work there in June of 2004. Prior to that he was the minister of recreation and activities at the Shively Baptist Church.
A native of Louisville, Ky., Lawson spent two years at Valhalla Golf Course as a caddy and graduated from Evangel High School.
He is married to Amy Shields Lawson. They reside in Campbellsville with their two children.
