Campbellsville University did all of its scoring in the fifth inning Saturday, including seven runs in game two to rally from a 2-0 deficit to down the University of the Cumberlands, 7-2, and even its Mid-South Conference record. The Patriots took game one of the doubleheader, 4-2, after scoring all of their runs in the first inning.

Micahel Caleb and Jameel Ziadeh started the Tigers' big inning of the day with back-to-back walks. Both scored on a error that followed a Zac Townsend bunt single, tying game two at 2-2. The Tigers continued to get free passes in three of the next four plate appearances. Alex Ponich walked, and then Bryan Chase was later hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Richie Rowland was the next one to earn a pass, as he faced five pitches and picked up an RBI as he drew the walk to score pinch runner Colin Bryan for the go-ahead run.

Logan Smith singled to right-center field for the second and final hit of the inning that scored Ponich and Chase to go up 5-2. After the Patriots went to their bullpen, new pitcher Paul Bowers tossed four straight balls to walk Luke Gadow and load the bases once more. Caleb was hit by a pitch to drive in the Tigers' sixth run and Ziadeh drove in another on a fielder's choice back to the mound for the second out. Bowers managed to retire Chase with a fly ball to left to escape the inning with two Tiger runners stranded.

Cumberlands took its 2-0 lead in the second inning when Josh Wood led off the inning with a single and scored on a ground out by Kyle Cochis. Evan Bennett, who reached on an error, later scored on a passed ball by Smith.

Ian Pick (3-0), who was plagued by a shoulder injury earlier in the season, went the distance for CU in his first start of the year, allowing one earned run off two hits and three walks through seven innings pitched. He threw 92 pitches and struck out six batters. Cameron Ohl took the loss for Cumberlands

In game one, Shane Stancill went the distance for Cumberlands to record his third win of the season, while Jared Lunardi (1-1) went the distance for the Tigers, picking up his first loss of the year.

Lunardi gave up five consecutive hits to start the game, including a two-RBI double by Hicks and an RBI double by Bennett. The Patriots fourth run came off a sacrifice fly. After the first inning though, Lunardi held the Patriots at bay, despite giving up seven more hits and five walks the rest of the way. He struck out nine in the loss.

Campbellsville responded with two runs in the fifth, as Caleb and Townsend both doubled and scored in the inning. Townsend drove in Caleb, who led off the inning, and scored on a base hit by Bertolucci. CU left two runners stranded in the inning, as both teams combined for 18 runners left on base in the game.

Campbellsville (8-8, 1-1 MSC) will host Cumberlands (10-6, 1-1 MSC) again Sunday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
