Campbellsville University men's and women's basketball will enter the Mid-South Conference Basketball Tournament in Frankfort, Ky., this week as the No. 1 seed.

Both teams will have the early games in the quarterfinals, with the Lady Tigers taking on either St. Catharine or West Virginia Tech on Thursday, March 4 at 10 a.m. and the Tigers play Rio Grande at 10 a.m. Friday, March 5.

On the men's side, Rio has struggled in its first year in the Mid-South Conference, losing its last 18 and going 0-14 in conference play. But that doesn't mean an easy first round for the Tigers.

"I don't care if Rio comes in winless in the conference or not. They're dangerous because of the way they shoot the 3 ... There's absolutely nobody in this conference I look forward to playing," CU head coach Keith Adkins said. "Our players are focused on winning the Mid-South Conference Championship. We'll have to go through three really good basketball teams, but that's the next goal on our list."

The Tigers have won the Mid-South Conference Tournament only once, doing so in 2005-06.

The women enter the tournament on a 22-game win streak, the second longest in school history. They can extend the streak and win a CU record 30th game in the first round, but it means going against a West Virginia Tech team that gave them trouble early Saturday in the final regular season game.

The Lady Tigers, which fell in the tournament final last year, are looking for their first MSC Tournament title since March 2004. They also won the tournament in 1997 and 1998.

"Our journey is great right now, and we just want to keep going, next cutting down the nets in Frankfort," CU head coach Ginger Colvin said after clinching the regular season Thursday.

"(The women) have had an incredible season ... I hope they can carry it on, just like us. We'll look for a good week in Frankfort, and then we'll part ways and see how things go in Jackson and Kansas City (at the national tournaments)," Adkins said.

If Campbellsville advances to the MSC semifinals, the Lady Tigers will face either No. 4-seed Lindsey Wilson or No. 5 Rio Grande Thursday at 2 p.m., and the Tigers will play either No. 4-seed St. Catharine or No. 5-seed Pikeville at 2 p.m. Friday. Championship rounds are Saturday at 6 p.m. for the women and Sunday at 2 p.m. for the men. The men's game is scheduled to be televised by Wazoo Sports.

The Mid-South Conference Cheerleading Championship will kickoff the tournament Wednesday, March 3 at 8:30 p.m. Campbellsville has won two of the last three cheer championships (2007 and 2009).

Admission for the cheer championships is $5. Day passes for basketball are $10 for adults and $5 for students per day.

This is the first time since 1989 that both programs finished a conference regular season in first-place in the same season, as they both won the KIAC. The last school to win both the men's and women's MSC regular season was Georgetown College in 2004-05.
