"We just aren't a good enough duel meet team to give up 6 points and win", head coach Franky James said.
CU started off strong against Indy, as
All-American Tommy Pretty had a major decision victory over Ethan Harris, 10-0. The win helped give the Tigers a strong lead until the forfeit at 174 gave the Greyhounds the lead. Indy went on to win at 197 and 285, leaving 125-pounder Johnny Papesh needing a fall to tie the match. He won by major decision, 10-2, over Josh Allen.
In the second dual, Daphillo Succes started the Tigers off against SIUE with a pin at 133 pounds in 1:50 over Kris Treat. Similar to the Indy dual, the Tigers were unable to get wins at 197 and 285 after a 174-pound forfeit. Papesh closed the dual with another major decision, but it was not enough to lift CU to victory.
Although
James was disappointed with two close losses he is optimistic with the Tigers traveling to Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn., this weekend for the Eastern Qualifier.
"Our team should
be ready for a good showing," James said.
