Six Campbellsville University football player have been named to the All-NCCAA team, head coach Perry Thomas learned Tuesday.

Offenisve lineman Alex Zimmerman, wide receiver Harold Small, defensive linemen Henri Baynham-Baker and Sherman Williams, linebacker Trey Mayes and punt returner Calvin Bini were all honored by the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).


Bini, a junior from Radcliff, Ky., led the NCCAA in punt returns, averaging 11.3 yards per return. Small, a freshman from Brunswick, Ga., ranked No. 6 in the NCCAA in receiving yards per game (62.7), seventh in all-purpose yards per game (110.8) and eighth in receptions per game (4.3). He also helped CU to be the best kickoff return team in the NCCAA, as he averaged 40.9 return yards a game and the Tigers averaged 24.8 yards per return.

Up front on offense, Zimmerman, a freshman from Louisville, Ky., received his first national honor after being named a Mid-South Conference All-Conference lineman.

Defensively, Cleveland, Tenn., native Mayes led CU in total tackles with the second most in the NCCAA with 85. He was fifth in tackes for a loss per game (11.0), sixth in total sacks (5.0) and eighth in tackles per game (8.5).


Up front for the CU defense, Baynham-Baker, a sophomore nose guard from Elizabethtown, Ky., and Williams, a senior from Louisville, helped lead CU in forcing turnovers. Baynham-Baker tied for fourth in the NCCAA with two fumbles forced, while Williams led the NCCAA with five fumble recoveries. Mayes also had three forced fumbles to lead the NCCAA. Williams was an honorable mention All-NCCAA selection.


As a team, Campbellsville ranked first in the NCCAA in red zone defense, allowing teams to score only 54.1 percent of the time. The Tigers also forced four turnovers in the red zone and forced a turnover on downs four other times. CU was second in the NCCAA at holding opponents on third down, stopping opponents 97 times of 145 third-down situations. The Tigers led the NCCAA in pass defense, holding opponents to 172.4 yards per game, and were also second in sacks with 29 for a total of 200 yards


Campbellsville (7-4) finished the 2009 season third in the NCCAA Victory Bowl standings. The top two teams are invited to play for the NCCAA Victory Bowl title.
