Saturday will be a busy day in Gosser Gym when Campbellsville University hosts the first-ever Mid-South Conference Wrestling Duals.

"It's pretty neat to host the first-ever Mid-South Conference tournament," said CU coach Franky James.

In order to be able to hold a conference championship it's required that there be five teams, according to James. That wasn't possible until this year when Lindsey Wilson formed a varsity squad. Next year, James said, Shorter College will also join the conference in wrestling.

Teams from CU, Lindsey Wilson, West Virginia Tech, University (Ky.) of  the Cumberlands and Cumberland (Tenn.) University will arrive at about 9:00 for weigh-in with duals beginning at 11:00. Each team will wrestle four separate opponents in team matches and the team with the best score in those head-to-head duals at the end of the day will be determined the winner.

"The goal is to finish the weekend 4-0," said James.

The first-ever event could set up a very competitive MSC Duals as Campbellsville is ranked fourth in the NAIA East Group with squads from Cumberland (Tenn.) University, University (Ky.) of the Cumberlands and Lindsey Wilson holding down the sixth, seventh and eighth spots, respectively.

"Cumberland (Tenn.)University and University (Ky.) of the Cumberlands are both going to be tough," said James.

Several individual wrestlers from competing schools hold high East Group rankings:

125 pounds: CU's Johnny Papesh is rated sixth in the East.

133 pounds: Tommy Pretty and Daphilo Succes, both CU wrestlers, are rated second and fourth.

141 pounds: Cumberland's (Tenn.) Michael Davis is rated No. 1 and his teammate, Neil Birt, No. 4. Campbellsville U. has a couple of rated wrestlers in this weight division as well with Jacob Murton (3rd) and Matt David (6th).

149 pounds: Campbellsville's Nick Waldrop is rated fifth and Jeff Steele of Cumberlands (Ky.) is sixth.

157 pound: James Casadaban of Cumberland (Tenn.) is rated fourth and CU's Conor Young is sixth.

165 pounds: Tiger James Linker is rated sixth.

174 pounds: Bryan Wells of Campbellsville is rated third and Estil Myers of Cumberland (Tenn.) is sixth.

184 pounds: Spencer Adams of Campbellsville and Jason Singley of Cumberlands (Ky.) are rated second and fifth respectively.

197 pounds: Eric Metzier of Cumberland (Tenn.) is rated fourth and Campbellsville's Diante Wright is fifth.

285 pounds: Byron Stewart of Cumberland (Tenn.) is rated fifth.
