Renee Netherton
Campbellsville University senior middle blocker Renee
Netherton was named the National Christian College Athletic Association
Mid-East Region Player of the Year for volleyball on Monday.
Netherton, a native of Louisville, Ky., averaged 2.72 kills
per game through the regular season and Mid-South Conference Tournament. She
totaled 364 kills in 40 matches and led CU with 107 blocks. She also has three
aces on the year, including one in the NCCAA Mid-East Region Semifinal Nov. 21.
"Renee is a deserving recipient
of the Mid-East Regional Player of the Year. She has been a staple in the
Tiger line-up for all four of her years. At times in her career, she
played in the shadow of All-Americans, but has always been a force in the
middle for the Tigers. When Renee is at her best, she can completely
dominate matches," CU head coach Randy LeBleu said.
Joining Netherton on the NCCAA
Mid-East Region First Team is teammate Shannon Cahill of Louisville, who had
more than 300 kills this season. Setter Caroline Martin is a Second Team
selection, while freshman libero Caitlin Dresing is honorable mention.
CU (32-13) travels to the NCCAA
National Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla., Dec. 3-5.
