Campbellsville University kick returner Harold Small, a freshman from Brunswick, Ga., was named the Mid-South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.
Small opened Campbellsville's game Saturday at Pikeville with a 38-yard kick return that sparked a 62-yard touchdown drive to get the Tigers on the board first. He later returned another kick 33 yards to average 35.5 yards per return in the game. He finishes the year second in the MSC for kick return average with 26.7 yards per return.
In addition to Small's special teams work, he collected over 100 yards of offense, scoring on a 55-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter to break a 17-17 tie.
This is Small's second MSC Special Teams Player of the Week honor. He received the conference and national award after returning a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown at Shorter College on Oct. 1.
Others receiving MSC weekly honors Monday were Belhaven College's Jerred Wallace and Faulkner University's Sean Thom.
Wallace
threw for 290 yards and four touchdowns to earn Mid-South Conference
Offensive Player of the Week. The Warren, Texas, senior quarterback
completed 27-of-43 passes while helping the Blazers (6-5) to a 37-31 win over
Union College. He completed his senior season averaging 175.1 yards per game. He tossed a team-best 16 touchdowns during the season. Belhaven finished tied for second in the MSC West Division.
Thom recorded 14 tackles to earn MSC Defensive Player of the Week.
The Fort Walton Beach, Fla., senior linebacker, recorded 1-1/2 tackles
for loss while helping the Eagles to a 24-21 win over UVa-Wise. Thom leads the NAIA in tackles this season averaging 12.9 per game. He finished tied for 12th with 4-1/2 sacks on the season.
Campbellsville concluded its football season Saturday with a 7-4 record and tied for second in the MSC East.
