Campbellsville University faced some
stiff competition from several schools, which included NCAA Division II
school South Carolina Upstate, at the South Carolina Upstate
Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. The Tigers managed to pull off a fifth-place overall finish in the team standings.
Geovanni Popoca ran exceptionally well, placing 13th overall while running a time of 27:01. Qualaun Reed
finished the race in 20th place, running a time of 27:54. Jonathan Pernell
placed 24th and ran the time of 28:42. Armando Pina came in 39th with
the time of 29:55. Right behind him was Dashan Craft finishing. 41st in
the time of 29:59. Wes Colvin placed 42nd and ran 30:16. James Linker
finished the race in 53rd and he ran a 32:22. Matt Oliver finished the
race 73rd with the time of 36:45.
Tiger freshman Will Cox did not participate for CU, as he took the weekend off to attend a family wedding.
CU hopes to regain fellow injured
mates Chad Payne and David Kays for next weeks race. The next race for
the Tigers will be close to home at the Southeast Classic in
Louisville, Ky., at Tom Sawyer Park on Oct. 24.
