Detrick Briggs is Campbellsville University's first National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) All-American in track and field after winning the triple jump at the recent NCCAA meet at Indiana Wesleyan College in Marion, Ind.

Briggs' jump of 13.81 meters (45-3.75 feet) placed him at the top of his event.

"Detrick has worked hard to improve every week," said CU assistant track coach George Eskridge. "This season has been challenging, but he has continued to give his all in every meet. His hard work and diligence throughout the season paid off at the NCCAA championship."

He also finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 6.36 meters (20-10.50 feet).

"Coach Eskridge has worked long and hard to get Detrick back on the launch board," said head track coach Joe Stockton.

Briggs, a junior from Louisville, will have one last chance to qualify for the NAIA nationals when he competes at a meet in Louisville on May 16.

Glen Jackson of Chesapeake, Va. finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of :15.64. His preliminary time was clocked at :15.52, just 27-hundredths off an NAIA ‘B' standard time.

"That kind of time can be made up coming out of the blocks or finishing the last hurdle harder," Stockton said. "But his hamstring has limited his training the past few weeks."

Jackson will also have another shot at making the NAIA nationals in Louisville.

Miranda Meeks of Princeton, Ky. finished fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:37.77, which ranked her in the top 20 of NCCAA times.

Currently, Meeks is still the lone qualifier from Campbellsville University at the NAIA National Championship in St. Louis, Mo. on May 21-23.
