MOBILE, Ala. – Both the Campbellsville University men's and women's tennis teams closed their 2013-14 season Wednesday with a pool play match victory at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Championships. The Tigers defeated Indiana Wesleyan University, 5-3, and the women beat Roberts Wesleyan College (N.Y.), 5-1, to both finish 1-2 at the NCCAA Tournament.
"It was a great way to end the season. We had a great effort and team work with some solid individual wins," said Kyle Caven, CU tennis head coach. "We haven't played our absolute best this week, but competed very well and makes us look forward to next year and our development."
Both teams finish the season with 15 wins and only one win shy of the national semifinals after losing their first two pool play matches Tuesday.
On the men's side, Campbellsville was behind 2-1 following doubles action after a pair of close loses at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Sebastian Marot and Zach Baulch fell 8-6 to IWU's Kyle Johnson and Brandon Dubuque, while Parker Jones and Johan Fuzellier were edged in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-5),
In singles action, Eduardo Mendoza and Baluch recorded wins at the sixth and fifth positions, respectively. Alejandro Soriano and Sebastian Marot also recorded wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
In women's action, CU nearly swept doubles action, winning at the first and second positions by 8-3 scores. Lindy Charity and Kelsie Peckham narrowly dropped their No.3 singles match, 9-8 (7-5).
Anna Tumanyan, Megan Charity and Haley Dallas each won their singles matches to clinch the win.
