DANVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville decided to quit leaving runners on base, scoring 15 times to oust ninth-ranked Lindsey Wilson College in the elimination bracket of the of the MSC Tournament Saturday, May 3 at Millennium Park, 15-3.
The win earns the Lady Tigers (42-16) a game against No. 2 seed Georgetown this afternoon for the right to play fifth-seed Cumberland University in the championship game Sunday. No. 1 seed LWC's leaves the tournament with a 45-9 record.
The Lady Tigers went up 5-0 in the top of the second when CU used two hits to plate three runs. Erin Benton led off with a single and Kate Black reached on a hit trying to sacrifice Benton to second. Kristin Benton then cleared the bases with a three-run shot to center.
LWC got three back in the bottom of the second when it used two walks, a hit and an error to close the gap to 5-3.
But again Campbellsville answered with three in the top of the third, the big hit being a two-run single by Brittany Rippy.
CU starter Victoria Decker (17-8) needed relief in the fifth after she gave up two consecutive one-out hits. Those, along with an error, loaded the bases. Taylor Wroe came in and retired the side after going to 3-and-0 counts on her two batters.
In the sixth, CU sent 12 batters to the plate, scoring seven runs on five hits and two LWC errors. Jordan and Rippy both had two RBIs in the frame.
Seven of CU's 15 runs were scored with two outs.
