CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville University men's and women's tennis teams each opened the 2014 season Saturday with wins over visiting Tennessee Wesleyan College Bulldogs.
The 23rd-ranked men were able to do a lot of work early in doubles play, winning all three matches. They also only lost two of the six singles matches for a 7-2 win. Sebastian Marot and Ben Ward both had a 6-0 set in their singles matches.
"This is a great start," said CU tennis coach Kyle Caven, "The boys had very good intensity in doubles and a great start. It was a perfect overall effort to begin the year."
The 21st-ranked women had a bit of a tougher time, but were able to come away victorious, 5-4. CU won two of three doubles matches and split the singles matches with the visiting Bulldogs.
"The girls had great patience," Caven continued, "Our four through six slots came through big in the end of the match to close it out. I couldn't ask for better weather or way to start our season."
Both teams will resume action Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. with their Mid-South Conference openers against Georgetown College at the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex.
