KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Campbellsville University will open the 2014 season as the third-best Mid-South Conference team and ranked No. 23 in the NAIA, the national office announced Jan. 28.
Campbellsville finished the 2013 season ranked No. 22 in the NAIA. Fellow MSC teams Lindsey Wilson College is No. 6 and Cumberland University is No. 8 in the preseason poll. The University of Pikeville is ranked No. 21 and University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) is receiving votes.
"We have added great depth in the lineup and have an awesome group of guys," said Kyle Caven, CU head coach. "They love training hard and giving 100 percent effort everyday. We will see where we stand because the MSC is very solid. Sebastian Marot will lead our team into the new semester alongside All-American Alejandro Soriano coming off an incredibly efficient fall season."
Campbellsville will open its season Feb. 22 against Tennessee Wesleyan College and then will open MSC action Feb. 26 against Georgetown College, both matches at home. Cu will travel through most of March, competing in the Auburn-Montgomery Invitational March 7-9. CU will return home March 17 against Indiana Tech, which is receiving votes preseason, and then will host No. 6 Lindsey Wilson on March 22. The Tigers will also host University of the Cumberlands and Union College, March 29 and 31, respectively.
CU will meet three ranked opponents on the road in April, traveling to No. 21 Pikeville on April 6, No. 8 Cumberland University on April 15 and No. 16 University of Northwestern Ohio on Nov. 18.
In all, CU will have at least 22 matches during the regular season and one exhibition, an April 9 home match against Western Kentucky University.
