CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville University tennis programs are hosting their second annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Campus Showdown on Saturday, Oct. 12. Anyone from CU, the community and alumni are invited to play.
More than 100 matches will be played during the day, all at the newly surfaced Kelly Hall Tennis Complex. The first matches will begin roughly at 9 a.m. and the tournament will wrap up around 10 p.m. ET.
For more information or to sign up for the competition, contact head tennis coach Kyle Caven by email at EKCaven@Campbellsville.edu or call 270-789-8697.
The format for the tournament is a 'no lose' format. If you lose your first-round match, you drop in a consolation draw. If you lose the second round as well, you are also guaranteed another match. All the matches throughout the day will only be one set, therefore each participate will be able to play three to five total matches.
Both CU men's and women's teams (varsity and JV) will be participating as well, allowing the community the opportunity to face collegiate athletes.
Last year Coach Kyle Caven was ecstatic with the turnout.
"We had people come from Paducah, Lebanon, Liberty, Tompkinsville and Campbellsville," said Caven. "It was a great event and definitely a fun atmosphere."
Four Tiger wrestlers competed in the event last season along with other students, alumni and parents. Even visiting parents of the Bethel University swim team entered the competition.
All proceeds from the event will help support the tennis programs at Campbellsville University.
