After a six week fall season, the Campbellsville Tiger Baseball team will now go into their individual work to prepare for their season opener in February. Head Coach Beauford Sanders was especially pleased with the team's ability to compete on the field and feels the team worked very well as a unit. "We have a lot of new guys and some solid returners this year. Every guy from top to bottom in the program worked hard and bought into what the coaching staff is trying to get teach."
The team kicked the fall off with their first annual Tiger Baseball Tennis Tournament. The Tennis tournament bracketed all players in the program in a single elimination tournament. The championship match featured new comers Jimmy Voelker (Sacramento, California) and Ryan Kerstens (Manitoba, Canada). Kerstens knocked off Voelker in dominating fashion as the true freshman swept the match.
After weeks of practice and intrasquads, the Tigers finished their fall with a maroon-black world series. Team captains Nathan Quesenberry (Maroon) and Marc Wilson (Black) drafted their respective teams and the series concluded late last week. Maroon ended up winning the series 2-1 in a well played series. Game one was taken by Maroon as senior first baseman Nick Smith (Elizabethtown, Kentucky) was named player of the game with his 3 for 3 performance. With their backs against the wall, Black rebounded winning two by a final of 2-1. Juco transfer Tyler Derby (San Jose, California) was named game two's MVP as he was 2 for 3, he stole home, and he threw two scoreless innings to pick up the save. Maroon sealed the deal in game three in dominant fashion behind the strong pitching performance of Eric Staples (Somerset, Kentucky) who was named player of the game. The junior right hander went six strong innings, allowing two earned runs en route to the win.
As the players continue their individual work, Tiger fans...be on the lookout. The Tiger Baseball team will be putting on their fifth annual TALENT SHOW right here in the heart of Campbellsville. Stay tuned as the date, time, and location will be announced later this week.
