GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Campbellsville University used nine Top 3 finishes and eight school records Saturday to place third overall at the DePauw University Women's Indoor Track and Field Invitational. Tiosha Beasley led the Lady Tigers with 26 of their 97 points, posting a first-place finish in both the long jump and triple jump and finishing third in the 200-meter dash. She also qualified for two NAIA National Championship events with B-standard times.
"I'm really happy with a lot of the performances today," said Joe Stockton, CU track coach. "Tiosha running her fastest time in the 200 was really impressive. She may be ranked in the Top 10 in the triple jump after today."
Beasley's 200-meter time of 27.72 seconds was .21 behind first-place finisher Janada Acree of University of the Cumberlands and .38 seconds below the B-cut time for the NAIA. Beasley set school records in both the long jump (5.26m) and triple jump, qualifying for the NAIA Indoor Championships with a triple jump distance of 11.16 meters - only .04 meters away from an NAIA A-standard mark.
In addition to Beasley's Top 3 finishes, Campbellsville had six others place among the top three in their event. The 4x200 meter relay team claimed first place with a time of 1:49.66, beating host DePauw by 2.4 seconds, while the Lady Tigers placed second in the 4x400-meter relay with a record time of 4:12.46 and the distance medley set a school record of 13:50.43 to finish third. Nathelie Zetrenne finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a school record of 9.59, just .06 out of first. JaNaiqua Horne had third-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump, while Sarah Johnson was third in the 3,000-meter run with a school record of 11:25.65.
"I'm also pleased with Kotey Crowe the past two weeks as she's been able to clear heights at meets with us not having the pole vault mats out yet," Stockton said. Crowe cleared 2.35 meters, besting last year's indoor record, which she broke at the Taylor University Invitational with a mark of 2.63 meters.
CU qualified for three more events for next week's National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships. Beasley qualified for the 200-meter dash, Zetrenne qualified in the 60-meter hurdles and Porshia Hutcherson qualified in the 60-meter dash with a CU record of 8.35. One other CU record was met Saturday, as Tiana Benjamin tied Brittany Crawford's high jump mark of 1.50 meters.
Campbellsville posted the best finish among six Kentucky teams. The Lady Tigers' 97 team points was only two points behind second-place Millikin and bested host DePauw University by nearly 20 points. Bethel College of Indiana won the meet with 140 points. Among Mid-South Conference members, University of the Cumberlands was 30 points behind Campbellsville in fifth-place and Lindsey Wilson finished 12
th with only seven team points.
Campbellsville will return to competition Saturday, Feb. 18 at the NCCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Cedarville, Ohio.
