Shannon Wathen
BRANDENBURG, Ky. - Campbellsville University's softball coach has been honored by her former high school and is now the 28th inductee into the Meade County High Hall of Fame.
On Friday, in-between Meade's boy's junior varsity and varsity basketball games with Breckinridge County, Shannon Wathen was introduced as one of several former student/athletes who have brought significant recognition to the school through their service, accomplishments, contributions and support.
"Congratulations to coach Wathen for being inducted into her high school's athletic hall of fame," said Rusty Hollingsworth, Director of CU Athletics. "I am in no way surprised that she was chosen for this honor. Her time as a student-athlete, and now as a coach at Campbellsville University, has proven her desire to be successful."
Wathen has been head coach of the Lady Tigers for nine years, sporting an impressive 302-165-1 record. Her teams have won four Mid-South Conference regular season championships and three conference tournament crowns.
During Wathen's tenure, she has been named MSC Coach of the Year four times (2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009). Three of her players have been named MSC Player of the Year four times and two others have been named MSC Pitcher of the Year a combined three times.
The Lady Tigers have reached the conference tournament finals in seven of Wathen's nine seasons at the helm.
"Shannon lived the values of our program," said her former CU Basketball basketball coach, Donna Wise. "Her organizational skills, commitment to being your best and pride in your work are evident with the success she has had with her softball program at Campbellsville.
"I congratulate her on her induction and share pride with her family, community and Campbellsville University in the recognition."
Wathen's accomplishments in high school are significant as are all she has accomplished at CU as a basketball, assistant coach and head coach.
Wathen, a 1999 graduate of Campbellsville, was a two-time NAIA All-American and two-time Kodak All-American for the Lady Tiger women's basketball program. She ended her playing career in the Top 10 in numerous CU stat categories, including 1,365 points, 690 rebounds, 600 assists, 275 steals and 59 blocks.
She began her coaching career as a women's basketball graduate assistant. She decided to return to Campbellsville University in 2000 as a Lady Tiger assistant basketball coach under former Hall of Fame Coach Donna Wise.
In 2002, she took over as head coach of the Lady Tiger softball program.
