Tim Thurston is ranked No. 1 in the 133-pound weight division.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Campbellsville University wrestling stayed in the Top 5, and moved up a spot from fourth to third, in the NAIA Coaches' Poll this week, the NAIA national office announced Wednesday.
For the second-straight week, Grand View (Iowa) holds the No. 1 position in the NAIA Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 Poll. The Vikings grabbed 129 team points in the fifth regular-season installment. In the 10 individual weight classes, eight wrestlers held their top ranking from the Jan. 11 edition.
Campbellsville teammates Tim Thurston at 133 and Jamelle Jones at 197 were the newcomers to No. 1 in their respective weight classes. Thurston is listed on top of his weight class for the first time this year, while Jones held the best mark during the Nov. 23 poll.
Campbellsville was one of four Mid-South Conference teams in the Top 20, followed by No. 6 Lindsey Wilson College, No. 14 University of the Cumberlands and No. 18 Shorter University. Grand View (Iowa) took over at No. 1 after beating Great Falls in the national duals championship, while Southern Oregon also leapt Great Falls to sit at No. 3.
Four Tigers climbed the ladder in their rankings this week. Chris Teague came from unranked to No. 4 in 141 pounds, Conor Young moved up to No. 3 at 157 pounds, Nick Waldrop was unranked and now No. 10 at 157 pounds, and Allen Scruggs improved a spot to No. 3 at 184 pounds.
Campbellsville travels to the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky., Saturday, Jan. 28 for the Mid-South Conference tournament before hosting West Va. Tech, Indiana Institute of Technology and Oklahoma City, in dual matches on Saturday, Feb. 4.
