Ginger Colvin says this week's games are huge for Lady Tiger Basketball.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Campbellsville's women dropped two notches in the NAIA rankings and four other Mid-South Conference schools continue to hold down spots in the Top 25.
The Lady Tigers split games with two Top-25 teams last week and have two more ranked teams coming to Powell Athletic Center this week - Shawnee State on Thursday and Georgetown on Saturday. Campbellsville sits at No. 19.
"It's an opportunity for us, for sure," said CU Coach Ginger Colvin. "We had national-tourney-type games last week and two more when we step on the floor this week."
University of the Cumberlands, once-beaten and undefeated in MSC play, skipped up to 6th after being ranked 8th last week. Shawnee is 11th, up from 12th, and Georgetown went from 18th to 17th. Lindsey Wilson holds down the 25th spot.
Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) rose to No. 1 last week for the first time in school history and strengthens its grip on the top spot this week, becoming a unanimous No. 1 selection. The Lady Lions gathered all 12 first-place votes for 312 points as they extended their winning streak to 16 games.
The rest of the top four remains the same. No. 2 Oklahoma City garnered 301 points after getting back on track following its 88-66 upset loss to then-No. 12 Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Jan. 12. The Stars have since won three straight, outscoring their opponents by an average of 42.7 points in those contests. No. 3 Union (Tenn.) and No. 4 Westmont (Calif.) check in next with 293 and 281 points, respectively. Lee (Tenn.) moves up one spot to No. 5 this week on the strength of a 19-1 record.
