Lebanon, Tennessee - The Campbellsville University Tiger baseball team battled hard in today's Championship game of the NAIA Region XI Tournament but came up just short of forcing a second game as Cumberland Unviersity won the game

Campbellsville, playing out of the loser's bracket following an earlier loss to Cumberland this week, needed to win the first game to force a deciding Championship game in the double-elimination tournament.  Cumberland now advances to host the Super-Regional between NAIA Region XI and XII next week.
Campbellsville scored first in the bottom of the second when the Tigers were able to capitalize on a Jason Beale lead off single.  Two Tiger batters sacrificed for Beale to move to third and the Hector Urbaneja ended the ending as he was thrown out at second on a ground ball to center field, but Beale scored and the Tigers grabbed the lead.

Neither team would score again through the third inning, but Cumberland would tie the game with a solo shot homerun over left-center.  The game would remain tied until Cumberland put three runs up in the top of the 6th.   Campbellsville would close the gap on a Temple Macdonald homerun to right-center to make the score 4-2 after six innings of play.

In the seventh inning, Cumberland added another run and in the bottom of the frame the Tigers had the bases loaded with no outs, but could manage only two runs to pull within 5-4 after seven.   Campbellsville tried pitching Marc Wilson in the eigth inning after a strong tournament performance yesterday, but Wilson who was battling blisters on his hand faced only one batter, allowing a hit, and was replaced by Jon Bourossa.  Campbellsville held the Bulldogs scoreless in the top of the 8th, and in the bottom of the frame the Tigers couldn't score either so it remained 5-4.

Cumberland came to the plate in the top of the 9th inning and could not get any insurance runs as the Tigers retired all three Bulldog batters and had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the ninth playing as the home team on the scoreboard.

Matt Lepage started out the inning for Campbellsville and flied out to left field.   That brought up the top of the order for the Tigers with Hector Urbaneja who'd had the hot bat all day.  However the tiger lead off man would also fly out to left field.  That left the game in balance at the feet of Nathan Quesenberry who was one of four at the plate on the day, and also had four homeruns during the NAIA Region XI Tourney.    An infield single to third for Quesenberry brought up Chris Curley who was 2 for 4 on the day at the plate.  Curley chopped the ball to the shortstop and was thrown out at first base to wrap up the game in favor of the Bulldogs.
