Campbellsville University's Tennis teams ended their season last week in the Mid-South Conference Tournament.
"I am extremely proud of how our Men's and Women's teams performed this spring. Through adversity, they still managed to produce a solid campaign and take ownership over the season," said first year Head Coach Kyle Caven.
Caven summed it up nicely as the Campbellsville Tigers Tennis team wrapped up their season. Despite a valliant fight, both the Men's and Women's teams were eliminated at the hands of Lindsey Wilson. Lindsey Wilson went on to win the MSC Tourney. Despite a tough finish, there is much to be proud of, and the future looks bright for coach Caven and his players.
The conference tournament started out with a bang as both teams managed to knock off West Virginia Tech in the first round of play. The men won their first round 6-3, while the women breezed right by, taking the first round 9-0. It was the second round of the tournament that gave the Tigers trouble as both teams would lose to eventual conference champion Lindsey Wilson by a score of 0-5.
At the end of the day, Coach Caven is happy with his team's performance as sees a bright future ahead. "We finished the season with numerous All-Conference Athletic and Academic Nominations, which really impressed me in my first season. We are working hard on fundamentals and also the tactical aspects of the game, which will hopefully propel us to an even more successful season next year," remarked the first year head coach.
Along with Caven's and the team's accomplishments this year, next year should show even more improvements as the Tigers prepare to sign a few standouts to help lift the team over the top. "We have a couple of recruits close to commitment for both the men and women and hopefully we can bring them into our family next year," added Caven.
In closing, Coach Kyle Caven said, "I'm looking forward to a strong academic season next year as my upperclassmen grow to lead us to an even more successful year." Either way, the 2008 season was one of success both on and off the court and the 2009 season appears to be even better.
