LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University junior Carlos Anton is the Mid-South Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The weekly conference award is the first of the season and of Anton's career.
Anton finished the week with a 2-2 record playing as the Tigers' top singles player and a 2-2 record in doubles teamed with Pablo Numbela.
The Madrid, Spain, native, won 6-0, 6-0 over Asbury College's Braun Applegate to open his week. After falling 0-6, 5-7 to Auburn University Montgomery's Boris Obama and 6-3, 1-6, 1-6 to Martin Methodist College's Vinicius Santos, Anton beat Georgetown College's Jose Baeza 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles play, Anton and Numbela, ranked No. 3 in the NAIA, won against the top doubles team from Asbury and Georgetown while falling to AUM and Martin Methodist's top doubles team.
Anton helped the Tigers to a 2-2 record during the week and a seventh-place finish at the AUM Invitational over the weekend. Campbellsville swept Asbury 9-0 at home Tuesday and closed the AUM Invitational on Sunday with a sweep of Georgetown, 5-0. The Tigers dropped a 0-9 decision to No. 2-ranked AUM Friday and a 3-6 loss to No. 17-ranked Martin Methodist on Saturday.
Campbellsville is 3-2 on the season and will host the University of the Cumberlands on Wednesday at 11 am. ET.
The next men's tennis player of the week award is scheduled to be announced on Monday, March 21.
