CU's all-time leading rusher Greg Fountain led the Maple League in rushing this summer.
Former Campbellsville
University All-American running back Greg Fountain and the Seinajoki Crocodiles will play in the Maple Bowl XXXI this Saturday at 9 a.m. ET. The game is the postseason championship for the American Football Association of Finland. The Crocs will be battling the
five-time defending league champion Porvoo Butchers, which they beat earlier this season in the Maple League (Vaahteraliiga) Game of the Week. The game will be streamed live on the Maple League Web site. You can view the game by, clicking here. Audio will be in Finnish.
Fountain, a native of
Owensboro, Ky., signed with the Crocodiles in December and helped lead them to a share of the regular season title. He also won the league's rushing title with more more than 1,200 yards rushing during the regular season. He enters Saturday's championship with 1,559 yards and 19 touchdowns through 10 games played this season. Last week, Fountain rushed for 336 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Crocodiles past the Helsinki Roosters, 42-28, in the semifinal.
While at Campbellsville, Fountain set numerous CU rushing records and led the NAIA in rushing in 2008 with 1,726 in 11 games played.
He is the second CU alumnus to play for a professional
league championship this year. Former Tiger defensive back William Mulder of
Lexington, Ky., helped lead the Spokane Shock to the Arena Football League
championship last month in Arena Bowl XXXIII.
