Jamie Allen pushes down the field during the Tigers' season opener.
His first week of collegiate soccer at
Campbellsville University keeps getting better. Freshman forward Jamie Allen of
England was named the Student-Athlete of the Week for NCCAA Division I men's
soccer Thursday by the National Christian College Athletic Association. He is the first Campbellsville University men's soccer player to ever earn a
NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week award.
Allen netted three goals in his college debut Aug. 27, as Campbellsville won
its season opener at home over Freed-Hardeman University, 4-0. His hat trick
provided extra excitement to the Tigers' first-ever home men's soccer night
game and first game on the new synthetic turf at Finley Stadium.
"Jamie's going to be an exciting player for us this year. It was a good game
for him, but being a freshman we know he'll
have some good games and some not so good," CU head coach Adam Preston said. "I
think there's great potential in him, and hopefully we'll get it day in and day
out."
Other nominees for the honor were James Cottage of Southwestern Christian
University (Okla.), Louis Falcon of Southeastern University (Fla.), Emmanuel
Forbes of Southern Wesleyan University (S.C.), Ross Tanzer of Indiana Wesleyan
and Alex Tyton of Judson University (Ill.).
Campbellsville University travels to the University of St. Francis (Ind.) this
weekend. The Tigers face Indiana Tech at 7 p.m. Friday and USF at 4 p.m.
Saturday. in the USF Labor Day Tournament.
