Anita Henestrosa
Awards continue to roll in for Campbellsville University's rising sophomore tennis star Anita Henestrosa. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has named the Swiss tennis player the Rookie of the Year for Region III in the NAIA. This comes on the heels of being named the Freshman of the Year and Co-Player of the Year by the Mid-South Conference and being selected as an NAIA First Team All-American. "What else can say? She's won everything," CU head coach Kyle Caven said. "Coming in, she didn't know what to expect. We were lucky enough to play some
good completion all year and she was able to get the matches to get ranked and
to become an All-American. She's been working hard during the summer because
she wants this year to be even better."
Henestrosa remained below the radar most of the year until breaking the ITA Top 10 at season's end. By the time the final rankings were released in May, Henestrosa was the top ranked player in the East Region (Region III) and No. 7 overall in the NAIA.
She posted an 11-1 singles record and 7-5 doubles record through
the season, defeating three Top 25 competitors. She was also awarded the Student-Athlete of the Week award by the National Christian College Athletic Association on numerous occasions.
Henestrosa is schedule to compete for Campbellsville at the ITA Regional Championships in Owensboro, Ky., Sept. 23-25.
