Brittany Crawford is one of the top hurdlers in Kentucky.
For a coach who didn't have a senior male runner on last year's roster and only three seniors on his women's track team, Joe Stockton has just added versatility and depth to his 2010-11 squads.

"We think this is another great recruiting class," said Stockton. "We have met a lot of needs for next year's team. This group of recruits will give us depth and more importantly a competitive atmosphere in practice."

Women's Track and Field

Sprints: Cherese Bates, Louisville Ballard; Lauren Little, Union (Ky.) County; Carly Evans, Meade (Ky.) County.

"These three girls will also be competing for spots on the relays teams," offered Stockton.

Hurdles: Brittany Crawford, Henry (Ky.) County.

"I personally feel like Brittany was one of the state's best hurdlers and has the potential to go under 15 seconds in the 100 hurdles," said Stockton.

Throws: Alexis Crawford, Louisville Eastern (3A state champion in the shot put); walk on Tierra Alexander (sister to NFL running back Shawn Alexander).

"Tierra's been on campus for a year and I think our women's track team has helped to recruit for next season," Stockton said. "She's great attitude and a great student. She will fit in fine with our team. Alexis added eight feet to her shot put from last year's state meet, and we are hoping she can make an immediate impact to next year team."

Jumps:
Tiana Benjamin, Fort Knox, Ky. (finished 2nd in 2A state triple jump); Anna Petty, Taylor (Ky.) County; and Nakkitta Hutchinson, Grayson (Ky.) County.

"The high jump was one of the events we needed to fill," said Stockton. "Tiana, Anna, Nakkitta, Carly Evans and Brittany Crawford will help fill that void ... all with giving us some depth in the triple and long jumps."

Distance and mid-distance: Emily Wesley, Boyle (Ky.) County (2A state champ in 4x400 meter relay); Maggie Mattingly, John Hardin (Ky.).

"Emily and Maggie will give us two strong runners that can also help us with 4x800 meter relay."

Men's Track and Field

Sprints: Xavier Walker, John Hardin, Ky.; Dylan Schuman, Appalachian (Ala.) High School; Truman Padgett, LaRue (Ky.) County.

"Sprinters were a need for us this season. I think these three guys can score for us at a lot of meets."

Hurdles: Diaz Bolden, Louisville Central (2A 110 hurdle champion); Chris Muse, Pulaski (Ky.) County; David McKellar, North (Ky.) Hardin, hurdles and pole vault..

"We have a great chance to get a lot point out of our hurdles." said Stockton. "A lot will depend on how these freshman convert to the taller college hurdlers."

Jumps:
Timmy Perdue, Lyon (Ky.) County (Indoor long jump champion, 2nd place 1A long jump at state meet); P.J. Randles, North (Ky.) Hardin (3A stat champion in triple jump and runner-up in 110 hurdles).

"Jumps have been a strong point for our men's program and adding some depth in these areas can only make us stronger."

Distance and mid-distance: Christian Black, North (Ky.) Hardin; Kody Hutchins, Simon (Ky.) Kenton;

Andrew Simmons, Daviess (Ky.) County.

"We asked a lot out of are male distance runners last season and adding these three guys will help take a little stress off the rest of the distance core," said Stockton. "We have preached that if you going to be the best in our conference you're going to need to be the best on this team first."
