Aaron Schwoebel is CU baseball's first in-state high school recruit in 2010.
Campbellsville High School three-sport athlete Aaron Schwoebel will concentrate
entirely on baseball after officially signing with Campbellsville University last month.
The 6-7 Schwoebel, who has been named the Fifth Region Player of the Year,
finished with a .413 batting average but an even-more impressive .729 on-base
percentage after receiving 35 walks. "Swabes" as he's known by his teammates
and as appears on his truck's license plate, had nine home runs and 32 RBI
while scoring 37 times.
As a pitcher, he hurled 46 innings and struck out 47
while allowing only 42 hits and posting a 2.89 earned run average.
"We are really excited to add Aaron to the Tiger family. It
isn't very often that you get a kid right from your own backyard who has the
athleticism that Aaron has," CU assistant coach Chris Lewis said. "He has a great baseball frame, is a tremendous
competitor and an outstanding athlete. It's also a plus that he will be a two-way guy on the diamond, is a team guy and a great kid. He has the chance to be
an offensive force, especially as he gets stronger and continues to mature. The
best part is that he is going to have four years here."
In addition to baseball, Schwoebel competed in football and basketball at CHS. As a senior
on the gridiron, he passed for a school record 2,580 yards and 16
touchdowns for the district champion Eagles. He finished his gridiron career with 4,608 yards and 30
touchdowns. On the hardwood, Schwoebel was one of the state's top field goal
shooters and averaged a near double-double in points and rebounds for the Fifth
Region runner-up Campbellsville squad.
Schwoebel is the first in-state high school player the Tigers have signed in 2010 and will join a recruiting class that includes new junior college transfers Jared Roland and Anthony Rossetto to bring the number of CU signees to 18.
Jared Roland - Monterey Peninsula College
Jared Roland was born and raised in Monterey, Calif. He
was a three-sport varsity athlete throughout high school and was a four-year
varsity baseball player. Graduating in 2007, Roland went to Hartnel College where he became one of three starting pitchers his
freshman year. Then repeated the same as he transferred to Monterey Peninsula
College and became one of three starting pitchers there. Roland's overall
college stats are: an ERA of 3.90 with 77.3 IP, 18 APP, 11 GS, 46 SO, 1 SV, and
a W/L record of 7-3.
"Jared is an experienced arm, with good pitchability and he
is a great teammate. He has the ability to throw three pitches for strikes,
does a good job pounding the strike zone and will typically go deep into the
ball game. The thing I like the most about Jared is his attitude, he is a great
young man that will bring quality character to the clubhouse. He is a proven
competitor and a solid arm," Lewis said.
Antony Rossetto-Tacoma Community College
Antony Rossetto, better known as Tony or Rosey, was a
Stadium High School Tiger and lettered in baseball for four years and football
for three. He was selected Second Team All League his sophomore season, as
well as, First Team All League his junior and senior seasons.
During his senior
season, he was selected an All-Area Honorable Mention. Never hitting below .415,
Rossetto either lead his team in batting or shared the spot with two others.
After graduating high school he attended Green River Community College for his freshman year and later transferred for his sophomore year to Tacoma Community
College. Rosetto ended the season hitting well above .300 and was a Second Team All West Region selection.
"Tony is an offensive catcher, with a great attitude and a
team-first type of guy. He has a great work ethic, and is very coachable. He is
an outstanding blocker and does a great job handling the pitching staff. He
will be a great addition to the Tiger family," Lewis said.
Now joining the team here at CU, Rosetto shares his excitement as
he states, "I am finally a Tiger once again and it feels great!".
